Tangier, the pearl of the Strait of Gibraltar, has been a sought-after port throughout its history, becoming a crossroad where numerous civilizations have left their mark.

Multicultural and eclectic, the city is a spectacle for travellers, with its unparalleled mixture of architectural styles and its special light, which inspired painters such as Delacroix and Matisse, and which makes it very pleasant to walk on foot.

Do not miss the Great Mosque, Jamaa Al-Kabir, built in the 19th century on an ancient temple dedicated to Hercules. Its white and green minaret is an emblem of the city. Within the Medina there is also the Dar el-Makhzen or Museum of the Kasbah, which has an elaborate architecture and rooms dedicated to each region of Morocco.

History lovers will enjoy the Dar El Mandoub Museum, known as the Forbes Museum, where some of the most important battles in history with lead soldiers are reconstructed. To have a break, a mandatory stop is Café Hafa, where celebrities like Jimmy Hendrix and the Rolling Stones have passed.

The Medina and the souks
The Medina and the souks

The Medina is the oldest part of the city of Tangier and retains the network of streets typical of the Arab medinas. In contrast, the European presence has left its mark on this area of the city, where you can see for example Portuguese influences in the towers of the wall. The medina is full of small shops where you can buy all kinds of souvenirs and typical products.

The commercial heart of Tangier is in its souks, with a vibrant activity that attracts both locals and tourists. The Grand Souk is located in 9 April square, the largest in the city. Here you can also find the Mendub Palace, with its impressive gardens, the Sidi Bu Abid mosque and the Bab Fahs gate.

The Little Souk, on the other hand, stands out for its cafes and its craft shops.

The best beaches
The best beaches

The municipal beach of the city of Tangier, located in the vicinity of El Djenina Hotel, is one of the best beaches in the area. Its length, approximately three kilometres, its fine sand and the multitude of services make it a perfect option to enjoy the Tangier climate. Nearby, Malabata beach is also located.

If you prefer to get further away from the city centre, you can visit the Atlantic coast, where the Achakar, Caves of Hercules and SidiKacenbeaches stand out.

In many of these beaches you can practice water sports and adventure, such as surfing, windsurfing or kayak trips.
